This means that an online casino that operates from outside the UK but offers its knline to UK residents will now be required to pay tax in Britain. They will also be required to apply for a licence from the UK Gambling Commission responsible for all gambling in Britain and it will become an offence for unlicensed operators to offer online gambling service to UK residents or to advertise in Britain.

Kf is a useful exercise to examine these changes to UK legislation in the light of how gambling is regulated or otherwise in other countries with a similar background and where gambling plays a similar role culturally.

New Zealand gaming lawsfor instance, are a different proposition. There onlin no whitelisted or approved casino operating jurisdictions that are permitted to advertise and offer services to New Zealand players.

However, this is no way means that online gambling for New Zealanders is illegal. The Gambling Act states "it is not illegal for someone in New Zealand to participate in gambling over the Internet if that website is based overseas. This means that New Zealanders can play at offshore sites legally, while winnings from online gambling are not subject to income taxnor are operator profits. 1. Edmund Engler:

Before online gambling was a little like the wild west, companies could set up wherever they wanted to to offer betting services to the UK. The Gambling Act created a new body, the Gambling Commission , with a remit to regulate and license all forms of gambling in the UK to make it safer and more transparent for customers and the government. Betting companies based abroad however, while now licensed, could still get away with paying little or no tax on the profits they made from UK customers.

    2. Royal Fortson:

Online gambling in one form or another is now almost universal, but there is no great uniformity across borders in the way it is regulated. There is very little international cooperation and legal control of the industry is largely disjointed. This lack of cohesion will be further emphasised when the UK introduces its unique Point of Consumption Tax.

    3. Anne Aldaco:

The new rules affect the remote gambling industry who offer remote betting and gaming to UK consumers from outside the UK and UK land based betting business such as high street betting shop. Land-based gaming sector such as casinos and bingo halls will not be affected by these new rules unless they offer remote betting or gaming. Premises based betting and the treatment of spread betting will be unaffected except for some administrative changes.
